BOB DYLAN: “Chimes of freedom” (1964)

Through the city’s melted furnace, unexpectedly we watched/with faces hidden as the walls were tightening – Laggiù, dalla fusa fornace, di nascosto potemmo osservare/increduli l’assottigliarsi dei muri di città.

Andai a cercare questa vecchissima fornace quando le ruspe stavano avviando la demolizione, tant’è che approfittai di una pausa dei lavori per entrare e scattare delle foto. La situazione era già molto compromessa, dato che tutt’intorno all’edificio principale, ogni manufatto era stato raso al suolo e una parte della fornace era collassata su se stessa. Soprattutto, e questo fu il dispiacere più grande, era scomparsa la famosa parete rossa, di cui voci leggendarie riferivano che vi fosse riportato a mano un calendario eterno con i giorni scritti in rosso direttamente sul muro. Come si nota dalle foto, erano poche le zone franche tra le rovine. Non sono riuscito a reperire notizie certe sulla storia di questa fornace, a parte quella relativa alla sua chiusura che dovrebbe essere avvenuta alla fine degli anni sessanta. A quanto ne so, sull’area sono state edificate delle villette residenziali con annessi barbecue sui piccoli spazi verdi antistanti. Alla fine, sono forni pure quelli, anche se magari ardono solo nei fine settimana.
